Week 1
Each week will begin with an overview page of what will be covered that week. Action items are tasks that need to be completed in the nearer future and reminders for things upcoming.
Under the Assignments heading, you will find the things you need to complete over the course of the week. Most weeks will follow a standard schedule. Guiding Question Sets will be due by Friday. Homework will be due by the following Tuesday. Last, the optional Knowledge Check for the week is due by the following Sunday. (The deadline for all assignments is 11:59 pm on the due date.)

I am also including Study Materials that you may wish to work through. These will include optional problem sets that cover the week's content. If you don't have a chance to use them each week, they are definitely something to revisit as you prepare for exams.

Study Materials
This week we will start with the very basics - the building blocks of matter. We will learn about the structure of an atom, define isotopes, and see how atoms form molecules and ions. Because atoms, molecules, and ions are all so small, we will need a way to count them. We will use the mole (Avogadro's number) to count "things" on the atomic scale and convert between mass and moles. Last, we will introduce energy as this is a key concept in chemistry. We will talk in detail about electrostatic potential energy and light energy. You will likely notice that energy is a theme that is weaved throughout the course.
